The Southern Border: An Endless Cycle for Asylum

The closing of the Matamoros camp in Mexico was not the end of the struggle to gain asylum in the U.S., it was the start of another chapter.

Summary:

To share this story and visually chart out the asylum seeking process, our group of four Columbia Journalism School graduate students traveled to Mexico and Texas for boots-on-the-ground reporting. We interviewed asylum seekers, volunteers, and border patrol officers to attempt a deeper understanding of the migration process across the Southern border. We assembled visual elements and personal narratives to create the following investigation; a six-part deep dive into the intricacies of the border crisis.
